Israel De Jesus
Sup guys, my name is Israel De Jesus, I’m 24 years old and this is my 1993 Honda Civic CX.
I’ve owned the car for almost 4 years now, I purchased the car on January 4th, 2016 for $500. It was at a used car dealership, someone had just traded it in, and they listed it on craigslist for $1200. The car owed around $700 in registration fees, so I was able to talk them down to $500, crazy I know. When I first bought the car, I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into, I just knew I’ve always wanted a white EG hatch. I went through multiple phases with the car, looking back, most of them were embarrassing. But nonetheless they all led up to the most current phase, which is my favorite. Purchasing this car for $500 was great and all, but it came with $500 car issues. Thankfully with friends like Isaac Garcia, Omar Gonzalez, Raul Aguilar and many more friends, I was able to accomplish what you see. Being a young kid and not making much money at the time made it hard to believe that I would have my $500 car look the way that it does now.
Suspension set up is fairly simple. Buddy Club N+ coilovers. My all-time favorite, Function 7 rear LCA’s and subframe brace with an Integra Type R 23mm sway bar and spherical endlinks. Blox rear camber arms, Hardrace rear toe arms. New OEM trailing arm bushings. Truhart front camber arms. DC2 integra front subframe with the 24mm sway bar and GSR spindles.
Wheels are 15 inch 949 6UL’s, front tires are a 215-50 Achilles ATR-K and the rears are 205-50 Federal Rs-rr. Sitting behind the front pair of 949’s are Wilwood 4 piston calipers
My car is powered by an F20b engine, paired to an Integra Type R transmission. An H2B set up, with a small twist. This wouldn’t have been possible without the constant support from Isaac Garcia. After I blew up the D16z6 that was in the car when I first purchased it, my plans were to just replace it with another z6 but Isaac had other plans for it. He insisted that we do an H2B set up in the car, so that’s the route we ended up going. It seemed like Isaac had everything planned out for me already, he wanted to do the K series RBC intake manifold, which I didn’t know was possible until be brought it up. With the help of Omar Gonzalez, OG Workz, we started gathering parts for the H2B swap and spent countless nights working on getting everything together. Finally, after months we got the car running and headed down to DTTuned to get the car tuned, only to find out I bought a bad H22 motor. Omar had an F20b long block he had been storing for quite some time and that’s what we ended up throwing in there after the H22. I figured since the engine was coming out again I might as well paint the engine bay. So, I spent some time prepping the engine bay, which used to be 5 colors thanks to the previous owner, and I painted the engine bay myself in my front yard. I did some more touches in the engine bay since everything was out, brake line tuck from Finishing Lines, -6 AN fuel lines, re routed the headlight harness and cleaned up the engine harness as well. Now here we are a couple years later, and the engine bay does not look as pretty as it used to but that’s okay, the car is not a show queen.
Interior is very simple as well. Red DC2 Sr3 Recaro’s for the driver and passenger seats. Stock door panels, stock rear seats. K tuned extended shifter paired with a Checkerd Sports shift knob. Checkerd Sports cup holder. Now my favorite part of my interior, Nardi deep corn steering wheel that was gifted to me by my wonderful girlfriend, NRG short hub, and a WorksBell tilt hub.
Let’s start with my favorite part of the exterior, the front end. This is something that has been done multiple times and I was inspired by Eric Mendoza’s EG. Chargespeed front chin spoiler, Chargespeed fenders, and a VIS OEM style carbon fiber hood. I remember coming across Eric’s EG on Instagram and being shocked at how his car looked almost exactly how I wanted my car to look. There is multiple EG’s out there with the same front end set up but something about Eric’s car stood out to me and I just felt inspired by his build. Eric and I have become good friends and I always mention to him how much his build inspired mine. Following the front end, I have Wings West side skirts from a coupe that I chopped and made them fit to my hatch. I like the coupe skirts because, to me, they follow the aggressively low body line on the Chargepeed lip and fenders then they taper towards the stock body line in the rear. APR Performance side view mirrors, and finally one of my most favorite arts on this car, the LiveSports rear spoiler. I purchased this from Eric, I gave him $50 to hold it for me. I think it took me about a month or two to get the money together for it, thankfully he was patient with me until I scraped up enough money. JDM Bronze rear glass provided by my good friend Raul Aguilar, these were supposed to go on his EG build. I’m not sure what compelled him to have them on my car, but I am grateful that he was able to contribute to my build. My good friend Rick Eudave supplied me with new door and roof moldings. David, @davidem1paint on Instagram, was a big help with painting the car.
Future plans are to clean the interior up and just drive the hell out of the car. The car currently runs a 12.7 and 108 MPH in the ¼ mile without much effort, I would like to get into the low 12’s and I think its very achievable once I dial in the car. I would like to do some road racing at the bigger tracks, Autoclub Speedway, Buttonwillow, Chuckwalla, etc. For now, I’ve just been racing at the local go kart track, Adams Motorsport.
This pretty much sums up my car. I want to give a big thank you to Alex for taking the time to feature my car on his page, he’s always supported me with this build and always showed love even when she was an ugly thing.
